    AccuShot Reviewing:
First, to those worried about this scope being for pellet guns/air rifles: spring piston pellet guns *do* have a substantial amount of recoil. Most scopes nowadays are completely forwards/reverse recoil shock proof so they can be used either on air rifles or firearms. Why limit yourself to one market?

That said, I have this scope mounted on my .308 Remington 700 bolt action rifle and zeroed it in today. While not as severe as a 300 Win Mag or 338 Lapua, the recoil on a bolt action .308 is not trivial and is substantially heavier than my AR. I zeroed the scope and shot about 50 rounds of 308 using this scope and got very consistent ~1 MOA groups at 100yds.

    Pros:

The scope is rock solid and after firing 50 rounds of .308 it has securely held its zero
Fine 1/8 MOA @ 100yds adjustment click is nice
Etched glass reticle is clear and fine. Not the thinnest reticle I’ve seen, but quite good enough for me.
Included flip open caps are a big plus
    Fantastic value

    Cons:

The included medium height scope rings are probably too low for an AR, but were too high for my Rem 700. I ended up buying a pair of Burris 30mm low height picatinny scope rings for my 700 and they work great with this scope. The included scope rings are mechanically solid, it’s just that their height is neither here nor there. Given the number of AR shooters out there, if I were UTG I would make the included rings high instead of medium.

The scope is rather large, but that is more of a tradeoff with the laws of physics than the product. If you want a clearer, brighter image under high magnification, you need more light. To get more light, you need a larger objective lens.Read more ›

    30mm Reviews:
Why buy a scope like this, then complain about weight and bulk?! I bought it for my Hatsan AT44 Long PCP rifle, which itself is already too heavy for me to shoot free hand. So… if it is almost always shot on bipod or bench rest, I figured why not mount a big bore scope on it. The 56mm objective lens really helps at the long end of magnification to keep the sight picture bright and contrasty. Sure there is a fair bit of chromatic aberration at 16X, but I’m shooting targets for fun, not taking wild life photography for National Geographic. Minimizing purple fringing with LD or ED glass will surely raise mfg cost. Those who crave absolute optical perfection can shop premium glass with their fat wallets elsewhere.

The large objective lens also allows me to zoom in at 16X to focus/range on target, then zoom out a bit to take the shot. Larger lens = larger effective aperture = narrower depth of field = easier to focus. The technique is familiar to those who remember taking pictures with manual focus cameras with a zoom lens. I can estimate range quite accurately with this method, as verified with my laser rangfinder.

The POA does not wander when zooming between 4X to 16X. Budget scopes sometimes do this, so I always check by mounting the rifle/scope on a Caldwell Lead Sled DFT and zooming the scope.

The longish 30mm mid-section is a big plus on rifles where the placement of scope rings are restricted. This is often the case with air rifles. The location of the magazine slot on my Hatsan AT44 receiver pretty much locks the front scope ring to one location, so sliding the scope fore-aft on fixed rings is the only way to set the correct eye relief distance.

I first experienced UTG’s glass reticle on their 3-12×44 Compact, and I was hooked.Read more ›

    Mounted on a Marlin X7VH in .223 – 26″ heavy bull barrel.
Scope is HUGE and heavy, but most are probably looking at this to use as a target scope and not a hunting scope, so size and weight don’t really matter.
looks really nice. Turrets have nice definite clicks for adjustment and the locking mechanism is very handy. The 36 color thing is a little silly, but it works well. Reticle is crisp looking. Clarity is a little lacking, but for a high powered budget scope I think it is ok. Comes with nice flip up scope caps/covers. Comes with 2 batteries, one is a spare.

The included scope rings are REALLY tall, I don’t know what application these would be suited for but they aren’t for a regular rifle. I actually ordered a set of UTG low profile rings and they fit my rifle perfectly.

3 stars and not 4 or 5 because when I went to sight it in, I completely ran out of windage adjustment trying to get my shots zero’d. It is a new scope on a new rifle, so something might be wrong with my setup and not the scope. I haven’t shot it with the low rings yet, just the tall ones it came with. I am going to try it with the low rings on and see if that helps. If that doesn’t help, then I will put the scope on my Rem 700(because I know that mounts and such on this gun are straight and true) and zero it in. If that fixes it, then I will upgrade my review to a 5 star and look at what could be wrong with the mounts on the Marlin X7VH. If the windage is still maxed out, then I will be sending this thing in to UTG/Leapers for evaluation/repair and the rating will stand.

    ******************Update************

took it out and shot it with the shorter rings I bought, and it zero’d in nicely with plenty of windage adjustment remaining for both right and left.Read more ›
